INFLUENCE OF BUDGETING ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN SABON TASHA EDUCATION ZONE, KADUNA STATE

Abstract
The study investigated the influence of budgeting on the administration of public secondary schools in
Sabon Tasha Education Zone, Kaduna State. The study was set to: find out the influence of budgeting
on staffing in public secondary schools in Sabon Tasha Education Zone, Kaduna State; and determine
the influence of budgeting on staff development in public secondary schools in Sabon Tasha Education
Zone, Kaduna State. A descriptive survey research design was used in the study. The target population
of the study was made up of 35 principals, 572 teachers and 278 non-teaching staff in Sabon Tasha
Education Zone, Kaduna State. A sample size of 10 principals, 121 teachers and 56 non-teaching staff
were sampled from Sabon Tasha Education Zone, Kaduna State, making the total of 187 respondents,
used in the study. The instrument tagged “Budgeting and Administration of Public Secondary School
Questionnaire (BAPSSQ)” was used for data collection in the study. The reliability coefficient of the
instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha statistics and a reliability coefficient of 0.80 was
obtained. The data collected in the study were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency,
percentage, mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while ANOVA was used to
test the hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that budgeting had no significant
influence on staffing in public secondary schools in Sabon Tasha Education Zone, Kaduna State.
However, budgeting influenced staff development in public secondary schools in Sabon Tasha
Education Zone, Kaduna State. Based on the above findings, the study recommended among others that
school heads should continue to struggle for the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to
facilitate effective budgeting and administrative task in all areas by employing personal initiatives and
through networking.
